Titans jump on LCC early in the match
TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (7-1-1, 4-0-0) secured a decisive 5-1 victory over Lower Columbia College (3-3-2, 2-1-1) on Saturday at TCC Soccer Field, with four first-half goals setting the tone for the win.
The match began with Tacoma establishing control early on, as Laura Corr scored the opening goal just 35 seconds into the game, assisted by Aleigha Woodland. Olivia Meyer secured the net with a crucial save shortly after, denying LCC's quick response. Tacoma continued to press offensively, with Emma Hoover extending the lead to 2-0 by the 11th minute.
Midway through the first half, Tacoma maintained their momentum. Corr struck again in the 35th minute, assisted by Josie Harris, to increase the lead to 3-0. As the period neared its conclusion, Corr completed her hat trick in the 43rd minute with an assist from Melanie Rojas-Perez, sending Tacoma to the break with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
The second half began with Tacoma maintaining their lead, despite an early goal from LCC's Maylee Reynolds narrowing the margin to 4-1. Tacoma responded with a series of offensive efforts, highlighted by a crucial goal from Jayme Gieger in the 79th minute, assisted by Mersedes Baltazar, which extended Tacoma's lead to 5-1.
Defensively, Tacoma's goalkeeper River Beck contributed significantly with multiple saves, including key stops against shots from LCC's Kate Durfey and Payton Bullmore. As the period closed, Tacoma sustained their advantage, concluding the match with a solid 5-1 victory over LCC.
Tacoma dominated the first half against LCC, taking a commanding 4-0 lead into the break. Corr opened the scoring with a goal just 35 seconds in, assisted by Woodland. Corr added two more goals at 34:59 and 42:51, with assists from Harris and Rojas-Perez, respectively. The second half saw Tacoma maintain their lead despite an early goal from LCC's Reynolds in the 46th minute. Tacoma responded with consistent defensive efforts, including three saves by goalkeeper Beck, while Gieger extended Tacoma's advantage with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by Baltazar. The period closed with Tacoma holding a 5-1 lead, despite receiving two yellow cards and committing multiple fouls.
Corr led the Tacoma team with three goals on six shots, five of which were on target. Hoover scored once, marking the game-winning goal with her lone shot on goal. Gieger contributed a goal, scoring with both of her shots on target. Rojas-Perez recorded an assist, adding to the team's overall offensive effort.
Reynolds emerged as a key player for LCC, scoring the team's lone goal and leading in shots on goal with two. Shelby Poland contributed offensively with one shot on goal. Defensively, Bullmore and Annabelle Rogers each registered one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Haley Loll made three saves in the second half, allowing only one goal, while Cassandra Cleland also made three saves during the first half despite conceding four goals.
Tacoma improved to 7-1-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. LCC moved to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
