Titans Fight in Last Game of the Season

Des Moines, Wash. — In a nail-biter of a game, the Tacoma Titans were edged out by the Highline Thunderbirds, 60-57. The Titans fought hard, racking up an impressive 47 rebounds and five blocks along the way.

Things kicked off with intensity as the Thunderbirds grabbed an early lead, thanks to Jaci Graise's opener and some quick contributions from Jeralynn Sevaaetasi. But the Titans weren't about to back down. Tamairah Allen nailed a three, assisted by Ikunaday Filipe, sending a message that Tacoma was here to play. Midway through the quarter, the Titans hit their stride. Lanasha Lacy's three-pointer and a jumper from Josephine Matau pushed them ahead. Even as the Thunderbirds tried to claw back, the Titans wrapped up the first quarter slightly ahead, 19-18, with a key free throw from Keimani Proctor-Mills.

The second quarter saw the Titans extend their lead early, with Lacy sinking a three and Filipe adding two free throws to push Tacoma to 24-19. Highline wasn't backing down, though, as Nevaeh Richardson's three kept them in the hunt. By halftime, a free throw by Hailey Anderson had the Thunderbirds nipping at Tacoma's heels, with the Titans holding a tight 31-29 lead.

Highline came out strong in the third quarter, quickly leveling the score with a Sevaaetasi free throw. Moments later, Richardson's steal and jumper gave the Thunderbirds the edge. The Titans struggled with missed shots, and Highline took full advantage, stretching their lead. Tacoma stayed resilient, with Allen's jumper keeping them in the fight, but the Thunderbirds closed the quarter up 49-40.

In the final quarter, the Titans mounted a comeback. Josephine Matau's early jumpers sparked hope, narrowing the gap to 51-44. Jasmeen Kaur's three-pointer added fuel to the fire, bringing Tacoma within four. Despite a late push and a last-second three from Kaur, the Thunderbirds held on to secure the win, 60-57.
