Jasmeen Kaur Leads Tacoma CC in Close Matchup
SPOKANE, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (0-10, 0-0) fell to Portland (3-9, 0-0), 76-68, in a neutral-site matchup. TCC led briefly in the second quarter but was unable to overcome Portland's 22 second-chance points.
The game began with Portland gaining an early lead, as Kamakila Waiwaiole scored a layup to open the scoring. TCC struggled with turnovers, committing eight in the first quarter, which hindered their offensive rhythm. Claudia Arellano capitalized on a fast break with a layup at 7:00, pushing Portland's lead. Despite a strong effort from TCC's Ikunaday Filipe, who contributed a layup and a crucial assist, Portland maintained control. Norma Alcazar's layup in the final second extended Portland's advantage, ending the first quarter with a 22-14 lead over TCC.
Jasmeen Kaur sparked TCC's offense early in the second quarter with a three-pointer at the 9:06 mark, narrowing Portland's lead. However, Portland responded quickly with a layup from Norma Alcazar and another from Kamakila Waiwaiole, extending their lead to 59-53. TCC's Lanasha Lacy hit a crucial three-pointer at 6:29, followed by a fastbreak layup by Cherish Parham to narrow the gap to 63-58. Despite TCC's efforts, including a late three-pointer by Jasmeen Kaur with 26 seconds left, Portland maintained their advantage, closing the game with a 76-68 victory.
