TCC Prepares for Next Challenge After Loss to Wenatchee
TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma Community College fell to Wenatchee Valley College, 88-56, at home, as the Wenatchee capitalized with 25 points off turnovers. Despite TCC's efforts, they were unable to overcome the Wenatchee's 48.8% shooting from the field.
The matchup began with Scarlett McVeigh of the Wenatchee scoring a layup just eight seconds into the game, setting an early tone. TCC responded with Jasmeen Kaur hitting a three-pointer at 7:53, narrowing the gap to 6-3. Despite this effort, the Wenatchee's Maddy Jewett extended their lead with a layup at 6:07, bringing the score to 8-5. As the quarter concluded, Lanasha Lacy's three-pointer at 1:15 brought TCC to 14-10, but a final layup from Cam Roberts secured a 16-11 lead for the Wenatchee at the end of the first quarter.
The Wenatchee started the second quarter strongly, with Halle Adolph contributing a jumper at 7:40 to briefly regain the lead. TCC responded with Jasmeen Kaur's three-pointer at 8:44, tying the score at 16-16. TCC gained momentum with a 5-0 run, including a layup by Tamairah Allen at 5:17, pushing their lead to three points. However, the Wenatchee closed the quarter with a decisive 7-0 run, highlighted by Maddy Jewett's layup with 16 seconds remaining, securing a 32-25 lead at halftime.
The Wenatchee extended its lead significantly in the third quarter, fueled by effective shooting and defensive play. Halle Adolph contributed early with a layup at 9:07, pushing the visitor score further ahead. TCC's Ikunaday Filipe responded with a three-pointer but was unable to slow down the Wenatchee's momentum. By 3:32, Katie Colipano's layup capped a series of successful possessions, further extending the Wenatchee's advantage. Despite Tamairah Allen's efforts to keep TCC in the game with multiple layups, the Wenatchee maintained control, closing the quarter with a 30-19 scoring advantage.
The Wenatchee extended their lead in the fourth quarter with a strong offensive performance, outscoring TCC 26-12. Eliza Rough opened the scoring with a layup assisted by Ariana Ramos at the 10:00 mark, setting the tone for the visitors. Emily Simpson contributed significantly, making a three-pointer and a layup, while Devyn Cook added a layup following a steal at 7:52. TCC's offense struggled, despite a three-pointer from Lanasha Lacy and free throws by Tamairah Allen. The Wenatchee maintained control, and Jimena Garcia closed with a layup in the final seconds to secure an 88-56 victory over TCC.
