Men's Soccer draws with SPSCC on Saturday's game
TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma Community College and South Puget Sound Community College played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
The first half began with Tacoma establishing early pressure, highlighted by a corner kick from Taylor Pierce in the opening minutes. Despite an initial setback with a goal by South Puget Sound's Alex Canning in the 15th minute, Tacoma responded decisively. Nathanael Esayase equalized the score in the 21st minute, assisted by Pierce, bringing the game level at 1-1. Tacoma continued to apply pressure with multiple shots and corner opportunities, but the Clippers regained the lead with another goal from Canning in the 39th minute. Despite Tacoma's continued efforts, including a late shot by Davyd Fedina, the half concluded with the Clippers holding a 2-1 advantage.
The second half commenced with Tacoma seeking to level the match after trailing initially. Tacoma's persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when Pierce found the back of the net, assisted by Fedina, equalizing the score at 2-2. Despite the Clippers' efforts, including a shot saved by Andrew Wagenblatt in the 77th minute, Tacoma maintained pressure. Tacoma's offensive drive continued with attempts by Fedina and Porter Herbig, both saved by the Clippers' goalie, Wyatt Thornycroft. The half concluded with Tacoma successfully holding the draw, closing the game at 2-2.
Tacoma leveled the score at 2-2 in the 73rd minute with a goal from Pierce, assisted by Fedina, following Tacoma's increased offensive pressure, including three corner kicks in the second half. The Clippers managed to challenge Tacoma's defense, but multiple saves by Wagenblatt, including a crucial one in the 77th minute, maintained the draw. The half was marked by physical play, resulting in three yellow cards for the Clippers and one for Tacoma.
Esayase scored one goal on two shots, with one shot on goal. Pierce contributed significantly, finishing with one goal and one assist, also taking two shots with one on target. Fedina added an assist and recorded two shots, both on goal. Wagenblatt, in goal for 45 minutes, made two saves without conceding.
Canning led the Clippers' attack with two goals, scoring on all four of his shots, each finding the target. Christian Esquivel contributed with an assist, and Djibril Corrielus also provided an assist to aid the offensive efforts. In goal, Thornycroft made five saves, facing seven shots on target, to keep the team competitive.
The next challenge for the Titans comes as they travel to Tukwila, WA, to face Highline on October 8. The match is set for noon.
