Titan Tailgate Party kicks off TCC vs. Pierce game
January 25, 2017
There was energy and music in the air at last night's Titan tailgate party, along with more than a few basketballs as the women's team warmed up for their game and fans played mini-hoops out in the lobby. Though it wasn't the first game played in the new gym, the occasion marked the "soft opening" for the still-under-construction space.
Leadership Team members Beth Brooks, Mary Chikwinya, Bill Ryberg and Tod Treat put on blue gloves and handed out slices of pizza from behind the lobby's new concession counter. OSE events staff ran a photo booth, DJ station, popcorn machine, and build-you-own pom-pom station. The Veteran's Club staffed a booth.
At 6 p.m. the women's team played the Pierce College Raiders and won handily, 86-36. The men's team lost a much closer game, 72-69.
"This was the best basketball atmosphere I have been a part of at the 2-year level," said women's team Head Coach Christy Martin. "Our athletic department, Office of Student Engagement and Veterans Club put on an incredible event. We are thankful to have such incredible support from our students, staff and administration."
