TCC Falls Short in Nail-Biting 3-2 Finish
LONGVIEW, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (18-16, 12-9 NWAC) fell in Game 2 to Lower Columbia College (38-9, 20-1 NWAC) with a final score of 3-2 at David Story Field. TCC rallied with two runs in the sixth inning, but LCC secured the win with a decisive two-run ninth.
Lower Columbia took an early lead in the first inning when a sacrifice fly by Jaylen Kennedy brought home Sam Davidson, making it 1-0. TCC did not score in the initial innings, leaving the score at 1-0 through the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Tacoma's offense came alive as Kaden Cretti and Ty Iddon both singled, setting the stage for Ethan Mar's two-RBI single that brought home Cretti and Iddon. Tacoma took the lead, 2-1, by the end of the sixth.
Lower Columbia, however, responded in the bottom of the ninth inning. A double by Jackson Noonan, followed by a pinch runner Easton Marshall scoring on Sam Davidson's RBI double, tied the game. Karsten Hansen then doubled to score Davidson, securing a 3-2 victory for Lower Columbia.
Final score: Lower Columbia 3, TCC 2.
Jake Rafferty started for TCC, pitching 5 innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits. He recorded four strikeouts and issued five walks, throwing 96 pitches, 49 of which were strikes. Austin Nelson came on in relief, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits, striking out one batter. Nelson threw 46 pitches with 31 strikes and was tagged with the loss, his record now standing at 4-5.
