Titan Athlete Spotlight - Ethan Mar, Baseball
ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT - ETHAN MAR
Ethan Mar, a freshman first baseman for Tacoma Community College's baseball team, is making waves both on and off the field. With a season that includes five home runs, a .331 batting average, ten extra-base hits, and leading the team with 29 RBIs, Mar's contribution has been pivotal as TCC heads into the NWAC Super Regionals next weekend, with the ultimate goal of securing the NWAC championship.
Mar's journey in baseball began at a remarkably young age. He was swinging a bat for the first time at just 18 months old, a passion that was nurtured by his family. Growing up on Mercer Island, Mar spent much of his childhood playing baseball, even practicing with different little league teams outside of scheduled practices. His love for the game solidified in third grade when he aspired to go professional.
Despite his early enthusiasm, Mar faced challenges along the way, particularly skepticism from coaches who doubted his potential. "I was never the star player on the team," Mar reflects, noting that this lack of belief drove him to work harder than everyone else. This determination was a key factor in his decision to attend Tacoma Community College, known for advancing players to the next level and competing for the NWAC championship.
As Tacoma Community College moves into postseason play with the NWAC Super Regionals next weekend, Mar's camaraderie with his teammates stands out as a highlight of his college experience. "It's a great group, and the older guys have definitely brought me in as one of their own," he shares.
Reflecting on his journey, Mar advises aspiring athletes to "always work harder than the guy next to you, and never lose your belief in yourself." Looking ahead, Mar has signed to play at the University of Washington next season, marking the next step in his baseball career as he concludes his time at TCC after this year.
