Strong Start Not Enough as TCC Loses
LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Tacoma Community College fell to Pierce College 12–2 on Saturday at Fort Steilacoom Park.
Tacoma managed four hits and issued 11 walks, while Pierce capitalized with 12 hits and 11 RBIs.
Tacoma began the game with Ethan Mar reaching base on a walk, later advancing to third on a wild pitch. Mar scored on another wild pitch to give Tacoma an early lead. Pierce responded with a sacrifice fly by Andrew Dyk, tying the game at 1–1 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Tacoma's Nate Jetton singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, but the team was unable to bring him home. Pierce took the lead when Yacel Limonta scored on a single by Christian Dominno, making it 2–1 in favor of Pierce after two innings.
Pierce extended its lead in the third inning. Kai Halstead scored on a fielder's choice, increasing the advantage to 3–1. TCC was unable to capitalize on two singles in the inning, leaving the score 3–1 after three innings.
Pierce added two more runs in the fourth. Bradley Carl and Tristan Ringrose contributed to the scoring, with Carl crossing the plate on a passed ball. The score stood at 5–1 at the end of the fourth inning.
TCC narrowed the gap in the fifth when Ethan Mar reached on an error and scored on a single by Carson Ackermann. However, Pierce's offense erupted for five runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Nariyuki Dumlao. Pierce's lead expanded to 10–2 through five innings.
The sixth inning saw no change in the score as Tacoma was retired in order, and Pierce left a runner stranded on third. The score remained 10–2.
In the seventh inning, Pierce added two more runs, with Bradley Carl and Tristan Ringrose both scoring. TCC was unable to mount a comeback, resulting in a final score of 12–2 in favor of Pierce.
Devin Tep started the game for Tacoma, pitching 3 innings with 4 strikeouts, allowing 4 hits and 5 earned runs while issuing 6 walks. Connor Speer relieved Tep, facing challenges with 4 earned runs on 3 hits and 1 walk in his 1 inning of work. Brody Palmer pitched 2 innings, recording 3 strikeouts but also conceding 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 walks. Jake Williams finished the game, pitching just 1/3 of an inning with 1 hit and 1 walk allowed.
