TCC Battles Hard in 8–3 Loss to Centralia
CENTRALIA, Wash. — Tacoma Community College fell to Centralia College in Game 1 of the series with a final score of 8–3 on Thursday. TCC's offense was highlighted by a triple and two doubles, but it ultimately could not overcome Centralia's consistent scoring throughout the game.
Centralia took an early lead in the second inning when Brandt Kneisler stole home, putting them up 1–0. The score remained 1–0 in favor of Centralia through two innings.
In the fourth inning, Centralia extended its lead with three runs. Nolan Christ scored on an RBI single by Tanner Stack. Later, a sacrifice by Jack Skelley brought in two more runs, giving Centralia a 4–0 advantage by the end of the inning.
Tacoma got on the board in the sixth inning when Ty Iddon reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a single by Ethan Mar. Despite this, Centralia added two more runs, maintaining a 6–1 lead through six innings.
In the seventh inning, Centralia increased its lead with two more runs, including a triple by Brandt Kneisler, which scored a run, and a subsequent run on a passed ball. This left Tacoma trailing 8–1 by the end of the seventh.
Tacoma rallied in the eighth inning when Iddon tripled and scored on a groundout by Mar. Carson Ackermann hit an RBI double, bringing the score to 8–3 in favor of Centralia.
The game concluded with no additional scoring, resulting in an 8–3 victory for Centralia.
Jake Rafferty pitched 3 innings for TCC, allowing 4 earned runs on 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking 4. He threw a total of 65 pitches, 34 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 2.00. Connor Speer followed with 3 2/3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 2 hits, including a double and a triple, while achieving a season-high total of 4 strikeouts and issuing 2 walks. Reece Boekenoogen contributed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and striking out 2 batters.
